When our clients first came to us, this amazing living room and principal bedroom were sitting empty, just waiting for the TLD touch. Our clients had already been living in the house for quite a while, but just didn’t know where to start when it came to furnishing and styling these spaces.
We wanted to honour the traditional, original elements of the century-old farmhouse but give it a fresh twist. So we used furnishings like the sage velvet sofa with its brass castor legs and patterned rug to honour the historic home and paired them with more modern furnishings to keep things fresh and interesting.
We decided to forego window treatments in the main living space so we could admire the beautiful original windows and wanted to play with texture and a mix of pillows to keep the room from feeling too formal, rather than symmetrical pillow placement. We used a lot of layers and grounded the space with the Olive and Charcoal Loloi Rug.
We actually installed this project just before Christmas, but due to pandemic-related delays (story of my life these days), we returned this past week to place some final furniture items and get it all styled up! This was a special one - an old farmhouse lived in and loved by an amazing young couple, who needed some help making it feel like home. It was an honour to design for a more traditional house’s bones. It honestly had the entire TLD team charmed and never wanting to leave.
The Bedroom
We continued honouring the traditional elements of the home but adding a modern twist in the principal bedroom. We kept things serene but again played with texture and layering elements to keep things interesting.
We created a lovely seating area in the bay window, and added draperies that still allowed you to enjoy the original windows.
