The Studio Update: Chapter One

Paint, Floors and Paper

In last month's newsletter, we revealed the paint colours we're using to transform our studio space, so it's only fair we share the next instalment here on our journal.

THE FLOORS

Our 100 year old studio building has many beautiful original details including stained glass transoms, a wooden staircase and a brick exterior. What it doesn't have, unfortunately, is its original floors. Instead, we have a grey toned laminate flooring that feels cold and has seen better days.

As soon as we decided it was time for a change, one of the first things I started looking for was the perfect luxury plank vinyl floor. While I love a natural wood floor - our floors here take a beating with wet boots, heavy deliveries, stone and tile samples, and the general day to day of an office space. That paired with our uneven and wonky old floor structure, and the fact that we rent rather than own our current space, a hard-wearing vinyl is the perfect solution for a commercial space. I wanted to choose something that is sympathetic aesthetically to what the original floors in the building would have looked like.

After a long and thorough search, we landed on Flooret's luxury vinyl in 'Kingswood Signature'. Tones of golden oak and walnut inspire the floor. It's a classic mid-town that we are in love with.

We are installing the flooring next month so keep your eyes peeled for updates!

THE PAINT & FIREPLACE

Our stark white walls are finally getting their well-needed refresh. I'm leaning into my love of warm walls by choosing 'String' by Farrow & Ball, and of course, I had to include a classic TLD olive green by using 'Cardamom', also from Farrow & Ball, for the trim.

The wall below the staircase was screaming out for something and so when this stone fireplace came across my feed I knew I had to have it. It adds a vintage and natural element that feels historic.

POWDER ROOM PAPER

I recently spoke to an editor about how I always think of powder rooms as little jewel boxes where one can have a bit of fun. This ticking striped wallpaper from Spoonflower by the artist Whimsy and Mojo was a sample I have been coming back to again and again and finally it has found it's home in our client's powder room. This classic stripe will complement a marble top vanity and vintage mirror and add a tailored character to the space.
